Healthy Mothers, HIV-Free Babies: Community PMTCT Mentor-Mother Initiative
Pairing pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV with trained mentor mothers for antenatal adherence, safe delivery navigation, and infant prophylaxis follow-up.
Verified Project Outcome
100% antenatal ART linkage for enrolled mothers; sustained maternal viral suppression and timely early infant diagnosis (EID) referrals.
Protecting Mothers and Preventing Mother-to-Child Transmission
Directly fulfilling PIWI's fourth objective, this project addresses the fear, isolation, and healthcare gaps faced by expectant mothers living with HIV/AIDS. Trained Mentor Mothers—women who have successfully navigated PMTCT themselves—offer one-on-one guidance, clinic reminders, and nutrition education.
“When I learned that staying on my treatment meant my baby could be born completely HIV-free, fear turned into hope.”
